Payment Options
Please be aware: The Town of Farmington Tax Collector places all delinquent motor vehicle tax debts with TAXSERV Capital Services LLC (TaxServ) for collection. TaxServ is a debt collector.
A note regarding payment by check - effective September 1, 2017:
In accordance with town policy, any check received by the tax collector’s office will be returned to the sender if any of the following apply. This will be done to avoid any suspicion of fraud and to eliminate the possibility that the bank will refuse the check. No courtesy contact will be attempted:
(1) If the legal line is:
- not filled out at all
- not filled out completely.
- is written for a different amount than the numerical line (courtesy amount).
(2) If the numerical line (courtesy amount) is:
- not filled out at all.
- not filled out completely.
(3) If the check is unsigned.
(4) If the ‘pay to the order of’ line is not complete AND there is no bill to accompany the check.
There are three ways to make a payment toward your tax bills:
Option 1:
Mail a check to the Farmington Tax Collector. If you do not want a receipt, please use the self-addressed envelope included with your tax bill. This payment will go to our lockbox (mailing address to the post office box in Woburn, MA is correct) to be processed by our bank and sent to us for posting. If you do want a receipt, please mail your entire bill along with payment to the Farmington Tax Collector, 1 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT 06032.
** You can make one check for all of your bills.
Option 2:
Pay in person by check (personal or cashier’s), money order or cash. Currently, we do not accept credit/ debit cards over the phone or at our window. If you wish to pay online with a credit/debit card or by electronic check, you may use our public access computer which is located near the tax office window and available for use during regular business hours.
Option 3:
Pay online. For a fee, you can pay your tax bill by credit/debit card or electronic check (EFT (check)). The convenience fee to pay by credit or debit card is 2.99% of the transaction amount. The convenience fee to pay by EFT check is $0.95. Convenience fees are non-refundable.
To pay prior motor vehicle taxes:
To obtain DMV clearance, all motor vehicle taxes in your name must be paid in full in cash or by cashier’s check at the tax collector’s office. If the new amounts are available for the supplemental list or next Grand List, these taxes must also be paid in cash for DMV clearance. Please contact our office with any questions.
Online viewing and payment of tax bills
The Town of Farmington, in partnership with Invoice Cloud, is happy to offer residents an easy and secure way to view, print and pay their tax bills online. We support electronic presentment and billing because it is more convenient for residents and better for the environment.
Online bill payment offers the following benefits:
- No signup cost or registration required
- Access, view and pay your bills online, at your convenience
- Paying your bill online is faster and easier than writing a check and mailing it
- You can pay with a credit/debit card or electronic check
- You have the option to pay immediately or schedule a payment
- Types of payment accepted
Electronic checks using a checking or savings account or the following credit card types are accepted for payment:
Convenience fees
Use of a credit/debit card will incur a convenience fee of 2.99% per transaction, with a minimum charge of $3.95. Use of an electronic check will incur a convenience fee of $.95 per transaction. The Town of Farmington receives only your bill payment amount. Convenience fees cover various administrative costs associated with accepting payments and are non-refundable.
The convenience fee amount is automatically calculated and is shown on the payment page before you submit your payment for processing. Convenience fees will appear as a separate charge from the bill amount on your bank or credit card statement.
