A spectacular recreation opportunity, the Farmington Valley Multi-Use Trails are used by outdoor lovers for scenic walking, jogging, inline skating, and biking. Once an old railroad bed, the trail system is handicap accessible, paved, and reachable through several locations in Town, including some locations with parking lots.  For more information about the trails in Farmington and about the entire Farmington Valley Multi-Use Trail System, visit www.fchtrail.org.

Farmington Canal Heritage Trail - This trail was built on the former New Haven and Northampton Railroad bed.  It starts in New Haven and continues into Massachusetts.  It also follows much of the route for the Farmington Canal (1828-1847), hence the name. The Farmington Canal Heritage Trail is part of the 3,000 mile long East Coast Greenway from Maine to Florida.   [Trail Access Location]

Farmington River Trail - This trail was built on the former Central New England Railroad bed.  The southern end of the trail is a branch off the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail near Tunxis Mead Park.   The northern end of the trail reconnects with the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in Simsbury.  [Trail Access Location]
