Assessment Appeal Procedure
Real Estate, Personal Property or Supplemental Motor Vehicle Assessment Appeal Process
If you feel your real estate, personal property or supplemental motor-vehicle assessment is incorrect, you may appeal your assessment to the Board of Assessment Appeals. You may appeal by making a formal written application on or before February 20. The completed form should be returned to the Board of Assessment Appeals, C/O Assessor's Office,1 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT 06032. The Board of Assessment Appeals meets in March to hear appeals. The Board will notify all appellants who filed an appeal form on or before February 20th, of the date, time and place of the appeal hearing. The Board of Assessment Appeals has the power to increase, decrease or make no change to an assessment . Any change of assessment for real estate or personal property made by the Board of Assessment Appeals will take affect on the tax bill that comes out in July.
A reminder that pursuant to CGS 12-111, applications for the Board of Assessment Appeals shall be filed, in writing, on or before February 20th. Postmark is not accepted.

Motor Vehicle Assessment Appeal Process
The Board of Assessment Appeals will meet during a scheduled day in September to hear appeals from persons claiming to be aggrieved by the doings of the assessor, regarding motor vehicle accounts. The date and time of the meeting will be available at the end of August. Call the Assessor's office then to get that information.
Hearings are on a first come, first served basis only, no appointments will be given. Please bring the completed appeal application, the motor vehicle being appealed, and all supporting evidence to the appeal hearing.
