Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) Public Comment Hearing RE: Connecticut Natural Gas & Southern Connecticut Natural Gas

The Connecticut Natural Gas Corp. (CNG) filed a general rate case application with the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) on November 3, 2023, proposing to increase the rates charged to customers. CNG has proposed an increase of approximately 4.3% or $19.8 million in annual revenues, which would be effective on or about November 1, 2024. The overall monthly bill impact for an average residential heating customer is $6.67, or an increase of approximately 5.2%; for an average residential non-heating customer is $5.13 or an increase of approximately 10.1%; for an average commercial customer is $9.36, or an increase of approximately 3.9%; for an average industrial customer is $146.13 or an increase of approximately 2.3% above charges currently authorized by PURA. There will be no change in customer rates until PURA has completed the rate case process.

PURA will determine through the rate case process the actual level and distribution of any approved rate increase, but it is expected that the amount of the increase will vary based on customer class, i.e.: residential, commercial, industrial or municipal. We welcome your comments and involvement in this process.

Anyone who wishes to provide comments regarding the application may do so by:

  1. appearing in person and participating in any of the Authority’s public hearings,
  2. writing to PURA at Ten Franklin Square, New Britain, Connecticut 06051, or
  3. sending an email to PURA.ExecutiveSecretary@ct.gov
